Our Story
We started Online Step Counter after watching friends abandon fitness apps because of paywalls, ads, and privacy pop-ups. The sensors needed to count steps — accelerometer and gyroscope — are already in every smartphone. The browser can access them. So why force an install?
We ported lab-tested pedometer logic — gravity tracking, band-pass filtering, adaptive thresholds, cadence verification — into JavaScript that runs entirely in your browser. No backend, no database, no tracking pixel. The result is onlinestepcounter.com: open the site, tap Start Counting, put your phone in your pocket, and walk.
Our Mission
Make accurate, private step counting accessible to everyone — students, teachers, office teams, seniors, and anyone who just wants to move more without friction.
- Accuracy without compromise: Lab-grade filtering (0.5–4 Hz band-pass + CV gate + shake rejection) — not a naive shake counter.
- Privacy by design: All processing stays on device. We don't store, sell, or transmit your steps.
- Zero barrier: No download, no signup, no subscription. Works on iOS & Android, online or offline after first load.
- Open to all: Free forever, with no limits on steps, history, or CSV exports.
How We're Different
Browser-first
Add to Home Screen and it behaves like a PWA. Share a single link and an entire classroom can join a challenge in seconds.
Honest accuracy
We disclose our limits: no browser pedometer is medical-grade. We delay 5 steps to verify rhythm rather than fake instant counts.
No dark patterns
No email wall, no push-notification spam, no "upgrade to pro to see your history".
Built for everyone
Walkers, runners on walk intervals, teachers, office workers, and privacy-conscious users who avoid cloud fitness suites.
What Users Say
We don't collect testimonials that require sign-in. The best feedback is usage: when someone hits 10,000 steps and exports the CSV, we know the tool did its job — quietly and accurately.
